We're moving to Wordpress!

We will be getting everything ready and moving everything over to a Wordpress blog that Forums for Women will be hosting. That way, we will own our content.

Unfortunately, using Blogger means that everything we post is owned by Google. Not to mention the likelihood that Blogger Blogs will not continue to be free.

There is also the whole issue about Google being able to close any Blogger Blogs they want to if they don't agree with the content or advertisers other than Adsense are being used. Yes, they are like the Government watching your every move.

Getting My Children to Clean Up

I have had such a tough time with my children getting into things. I'm trying to squeeze in some work projects, and they sure know when they don't have my attention.

Lately, I will come out of my office to see toys scattered all over. The office door is open, but I tend to let them be when they are playing quietly. Yes, playing quietly usually means getting into toys and making a mess. I started picking the toys up myself and realized that I should not be picking up for them.

My children are quite stubborn and seem to get so sleepy when I ask them to pick up their toys. It's amazing how they go from chaotic to downright exhausted in a matter of seconds.

To combat the clutter, I've taken to threatening them with toy disposal. I will give them a time interval (normally 5 minutes) and will begin to count down. I tell them that in 5 minutes I will take my garbage bag around and scoop up anything not put away. Everything in my bag will be taking to the dumpster and thrown away.

Of course, I am bluffing. I have no intention of throwing away their toys. At the most, the toys go into another room away from them for a week or two. However, the thought of me tossing their toys is enough encouragements for my children to pick up.

Be sure to count down the time. That gives them a sense of urgency that they need. I can make up the time intervals as my children cannot tell time yet. They normally get longer than the five minutes, but in the end, the toys are put away.

Do Blogs Really Gain Traffic?

I know these Blogger Blogs get indexed good by Google, but not sure if they really do much for a site's exposure.

Mostly all of the Blogger blogs that I have seen, just have a few followers. I guess fresh content and advertising works, but not sure the other search engines care much about these blogs.

I was thinking about creating another site using the forums4women domain and trying out a WordPress blog design. I think that will allow sites to index the domain as not it's just forwarded which doesn't help get the site out there much. Maybe I could even set it up like a sitemap or something. Not linking all of the forums, but the main one's focusing on women.

If you're reading this, let me know what you think. As I mentioned, at least these get indexed well by Google. That alone makes have a Blogger Blog worth it.

Michele Bachmann - Staying Strong

Whether you're a Democrat or Republican, watching the news reports during and after the election was quite interesting.

One of the main memories I have is watching CNN's, Anderson Cooper interviewing Michele Bachmann. I thought he was just so rude to her.

Anderson just seemed so annoyed that she wasn't backing down. He asked her the same questions over and over. Seriously, it wasn't necessary.

What he was trying to do was to get her to say specific programs that the Republicans would work on cutting. The problem is that if she had told him three programs, he would have started a panic by saying the the Republicans will be going after this program and that. Basically, making the Republicans the villains and scaring those that had just voted for them. "Look who you voted in, and now they are going to slash all these programs."

I love that she stayed strong and did not allow him to make a play on her. She did not allow him to use her to grand stand and begin a new paranoia.

Anderson was not the only male host to be so rude to her. Why is it that Democratic men get angry at the system and then decide to take it out on a Republican woman? They should be ashamed at themselves.

I also found it interesting that Anderson would compare two different trips and assume that the expenses would be similar. President Clinton's trip was taken over 10 years ago, therefore, one cannot use those expenses and say that President Obama's trip should cost about the same.

Is Forum 4 Women an Activist Group?

I was asked this question today and thought that there might be others out there wondering the same.

Forum 4 Women has absolutely no political or social agenda. We are not an activist group, but will allow activists to create their own groups and such. However, groups must still abide by the forum rules.

One of the points to our description is that we support women and their cause. There are many women that spend their lives fighting for causes, and we want to support them with their fight.

I really feel that it's possible to support those that support a cause while maintaining integrity and respect on the forum.

The Power of Karma

Karma is the belief that your current actions will affect your future. That if you act compassionately and morally, positive things will happen to you. If you act cruel and immorally, negative things will happen to you.

Karma is a key belief in the popular TV show, "My Name is Earl." The entire show evolves around the principals of Karma. Earl has acted immorally his entire life, but feels remorse and believes if he fixes his misdeeds, Karma will give him a positive future.

The show promotes the belief as well. When Earl does bad, he is punished; and rewarded when he does good.

What do you think about Karma?

I believe in Karma. I've seen it work many times. At least I'd like to think it's real.

Now, I don't believe in Karma all of the time. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. However, I do feel that if you live your life morally and are kind to others, good things will come your way.

Why did you create the Forum 4 Women?

I had been spending a lot of time on marketing forums, and the issues were always the same. So, I decided to find a forum where women could discuss a broad range of topics. That way, I wouldn't have to join 5 different forums. There are many forums out there for mothers or professional women. Each forum is a group that includes a certain type of woman.

What about women that don't have children, or those that don't feel so professional? There were only a couple of all women forums. Most of those were geared around articles, so one has to do a lot of reading before asking a simple question. Who has that kind of time?

I saw many organizations for women without a forum. Wouldn't it be nice to have a place where an organization would be seen by many women? There were sure a lot of organizations that I hadn't heard of.

I also thought it would be nice to have a forum that wasn't plastered with advertising. Many of the forums I saw seemed to have one goal. That goal was to fill every inch of space with an advertisement.

I think women deserve more. I think women deserve a forum that will freely support their organizations and causes. Women deserve support for their business, their families, their goals and so on. Women deserve to be able to confide in others without the worry of being scrutinized for their feelings. Women deserve to be able to give their opinions without being personally attacked. Women deserve friendships without motives.

I can't give women everything they deserve, but at least I can offer this forum as a start.
